I’m an NHS clinician and researcher based at Oxford University. In sixth form I received 4 offers to read medicine (UCL, Imperial, Queen Mary and Oxford). I chose to study at Oxford (where I won and held a scholarship). During my studies I had countless 1-to-1 tutorials with some of the world’s most celebrated academics. I frequently taught undergraduate medical students in both formal and informal settings, as well as prospective applicants (as part of a charity I am involved with - STEP into OxMed). My experiences have developed a deep technical understanding of my subject in addition to soft skills such as communication, organisation and patience. I have been involved in the interview process for undergraduate admissions, as well as provided tutorials to undergraduate medical students as well as interview practice / personal statement advice for prospective applicants in sixth form. I am also frequently invited to give lectures and presentations on various medical topics and my research work at national conferences (Oxford university, British Academy, TORCH etc).
These experiences have led to me having a deep and thorough understanding of the medicine admissions process, what tutors are looking for, as well as a solid bank of interview topics and questions which will help candidates through the process.
For the past two years I’ve practiced as an NHS doctor looking after patients with care and attention. I extend this same attention to detail and care to my students. I have been blessed with the privilege of having inspiring teachers throughout my life who have given me the confidence and tools to think and explore, and I hope to pass this inspiration on to the next generation.
NHS journal club and grand round presentations - I deliver journal club teaching, critically analysing recently published research that I'm interested in
NHS teaching - taught medical students from Queen Mary and Anglia Ruskin on placement at my hospital, both classroom and bedside teaching.
Oxford STEP into Medicine - helped students from disadvantaged backgrounds as part of this charity (voluntary)
Private Tutoring - on a freelance basis in various countries, cultures and with students of various socio-economic backgrounds inc. India, Middle East, UK. I have a broad and varied cultural understanding (being an immigrant myself), I understand cultural differences and nuances which helps me relate to my students.
Oxford University Undergraduate teaching - taught pre-clinical medical students in both formal and informal settings
involved in interview question bank design at my college - provided feedback to tutors on the admissions process and have observed interviews with candidates.
Invited as guest speaker / lecturer at various institutions - Oxford University, TORCH, British Academy etc.
Tutored my 3 younger siblings and helped get all of them into top medical schools in the UK
My aim is for students to develop a true depth of their understanding of any given topic - I believe this is essential to allow creative thinking and for personal interests to develop (and it means the concepts won’t ever be forgotten!).
I aim to ensure depth of understanding from first principles (as far as possible).
My approach is completely individualised and based on personal needs.
Initially I aim to understand my students, their goals, ambitions, what they feel they need to do in order to achieve these, and together work out strategic plans to help us reach these short and longer-term goals
The lessons will be thought-provoking and hopefully inspiring for us both. I encourage and enjoy lateral thinking. I am especially keen to take on interview practices - I have vast experiences of the interview process at Oxford and have a solid bank of commonly-occurring topics. I am also open to critically analysing and providing recommendations on personal statements.
