Personal Description:

Hello!
My name is Harry.
I`ve taught piano for over 10 years, both as a private piano tutor and for top UK schools (private and state).

I focus on finding the best way to teach the individual student. This means that I`m happy to adapt and teach classical, jazz, rock and pop or spending time teaching students to write their own music, maybe using apps and games to teach when useful.

Because I spend so much time building a strong teacher-student relationship, many of my students have lessons for years, achieving a high level of piano ability, while having a fun at the same time.

Just quickly, I should mention that I have a 1st class degree in classical piano performance, and have lots of experience as a performer and composer. I`m currently working on writing music for a off west-end play and also working on project to restore the music of Herkimer for a cultural centre in Hertfordshire. I`ve recorded for film and even at Abbey Road studios!

Tutoring Experience:

I've worked for a number of specialised music academies, top UK private and state schools and run my own teaching practice for 10 years.

I specialise in teaching students over the age of 10, and adult learners.

My focus is always to make each student an independent musician, giving them the tools to have lifelong enjoyment at the piano.

With that in mind, I've taught classical piano, jazz, pop, rock, composition, musical theatre and theory.

Tutoring Approach:

Each student has a different motivation for playing the piano, so it's important to understand why someone wants to learn.
Often, someone loves a certain type of music or even a specific piece, so lessons are tailored to working towards that goal.

Other times, students already have a goal. Possibly achieving a certain grade or a music scholarship to a great school.

Either way, we need to work out a structure for the lessons and add some milestones to show progress.

Lessons can be as formal or informal as required - it's all based on the student's needs.
